If you are a fan of sports and also a fan of crosswords, then what better than to combine your love of both by solving sports themed crossword puzzles?

There are various different types of sport themed crossword puzzles, the most common being general sports themed puzzles that combine clues from a range of different sports, to specific puzzles where all the clues are on a particular sport, such as tennis.

Typically one finds that the more focused the puzzle - eg on one sport rather than generic - more of the answers need to be standard quick clues rather than on theme, in order to make a filled crossword grid. For instance if you have a vocabulary of just a couple of thousand words to draw from when writing a specific sports puzzle, then it is practically impossible to completely fill a valid grid with just those words, and therefore one will typically have to include some other clues into the mix too in order to make the crossword grid valid, assuming you are sticking to constraints such as having a symmetrical grid and so forth.
